|In 1970, the city of Montclair placed an order for three Crown Firecoaches. Two were 1500gpm pumpers and this 85 foot
Snorkel, F1618. The Snorkel served as Truck 1 and later as Truck 151. It was powered by a Detroit Diesel 8v71 motor,
Allison Automatic transmission and a 5 man cab. Richard Berk shares the photo shown above which is a factory fresh
F1618 taken just after delivery from Crown Coach to Montclair. Richard writes that you may spot a 50-51 Ford in the
background which was all Montclair needed before the boom started by the construction of the Montclair Mall just off the
San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10). The Crowns were a giant step up for this upstart town.
