| The Los Angeles Fire Department purchased two identical Crown Snorkels in 1969. Pictured above is F1570, Los Angeles City shop number 60227 which was first assigned to Wagon 9 serving the Downtown area. Both were powered by 1091 Hall-Scott gasoline motors with Spicer manual transmissions and equipped with a 1,500gpm Waterous pump, 300 gallon tanks, and 50 foot Snorkels. As built, the Snorkel booms were mounted ahead of the rear axle and the apparatus featured hose beds that were the full width of the body to hold a hose load of primarily large diameter hose. By the late 70s, F1570 was reassigned to Station 61 in the Fairfax District and was last assigned to Station 95 at the Los Angeles International Airport. |
