This 1953 Crown Firecoach is the first of many delivered to the Los Angeles City Fire Department.  It carries Crown serial number F1005 and is a triple combination pumper fitted with a 1,250gpm Waterous pump and 350 gallon water tank.  She is powered by a Hall-Scott 935 gasoline motor with a Fuller 5-speed manual transmission.  Crown serial numbers F1002, F1003, and F1004 were high pressure hose wagons that were part of this order but they were delivered after F1005.
It was designated Los Angeles Fire Department Shop number 720 and served as the pumper half of a 2-piece engine company.  It was assigned to Engine Company 23 in the downtown area until 1960 when the station was closed.  Both of the Crown apparatus were re-assigned to Engine Company 9 in the Central City area where F1005 served as P9 for most of her career.
