The Downey Fire Department purchased this Crown Firecoach pumper in 1957. Engine 5 was the second of four identical pumpers that were ordered by Downey. She carries serial number F1110 and was originally powered by a Hall-Scott 935 gasoline motor with a Fuller 5-speed manual transmission. She is fitted with a Waterous 1,250gpm pump and 500 gallon water tank. This rig was retained by the Downey Firefighter's Association in mid-2003 when the City auctioned off the last of its Crown apparatus. F1110 was refurbished and used as a parade rig for several years until interest was lost in it. She is seen below stripped of parts before being sold at auction in November 2009. |
