|This Crown Firecoach pumper, serial number F1245, is a 1961 model and is the first Crown purchased new by the Orange
County Fire Department. Although it was the first purchased new, it was not the oldest in Orange County as older Crowns
were picked up from cities that joined the County fire department over the years.
F1245 is fitted with a 1,000gpm Waterous pump with 600 gallon water tank and was originally powered by a Hall-Scott
590 gasoline motor with a Fuller 5-speed manual transmission. She was refurbished and repowered in the mid-80s with a
Detroit Diesel 6v92TA motor. F1245 was assigned County Shop number 5141 and was first assigned to the Airport Station
before being bumped down to Station 3 in the seaside community of Sunset Beach.
|Upon retirement, Engine 3 went to the Orange County Firemen's Association for use in special events.
The Firemen's Association picked up a different Crown in later years which became their event rig and
F1245 is now on loan to the Costa Mesa Firemen's Association.
